What a dream. ✨ All jokes aside, when our family is looking to get outside, one of our go-to activities on the North Shore is walking the grounds at Castle Hill on the Crane Estate in Ipswich. The views, gardens, trails, and Grand Allée make it one of those places we never get tired of visiting. A little history: the Crane family purchased the property in 1910 and transformed it into their summer estate. The Great House you see today was completed in 1928, designed by architect David Adler and inspired by 17th-century English country homes. The Crane family later left the property to The Trustees, who have cared for it since 1949. One of my favorite North Shore tips for families: get a Trustees membership. Members get free admission to the Castle Hill grounds, plus admission benefits at so many incredible Trustees properties throughout Massachusetts (& discounts for participating stores!) There are always places to walk, explore, picnic, visit gardens, and find activities for the kids.
